Calcul de PageRank

If you want to know about Google PageRank, then this article is for you. We are going to give you the latest and accurate information about Google PageRank that will certainly benefit you. We recommend you to read this post thoroughly in order to get the most out of it.

What is PageRank?

Simplifying a lot: it is a ranking system developed by Google to measure the “Authority” of a web page, based on the “quantity” and “quality” of the links that point to it. Although the complete description is much more complex, you don't really need to know much more, but it is convenient to know other important details.

Why is PageRank important?

The Google PageRank (which we call PR for short) is one of the most important factors (although not the only one) that determine in which position of the results your page will appear. The higher you go, the more chances you have of getting visitors. The theory for the calculation of the PR is simple: each link is interpreted as a “vote of confidence” towards a page.
The more votes, the greater Authority, and the greater PageRank, which facilitates a better positioning. Naturally, this is a simplified explanation, because Google also takes into account other factors:

  • The domain authority from which the link comes
  • The thematic relevance of the page that links you: that is, whether or not it has to do with the contents you publish normally
  • The text by which they link you (anchor text)
  • The place it occupies in a link on the page: a link in the content of the article does not have the same authority as in the footer
  • The PR, like most SEO metrics, is important as a relative value. A page with a PR1 can be positioned above one with a PR3 if its On-Page SEO is superior

How is PageRank calculated?

It is calculated using a series of algorithms that study the pages indexed by Google robots, and that assigns them a number that describes their relative importance with respect to the rest of the indexed pages. The algorithm that calculates the PR is based on mathematical formulas developed by Google, whose current variables are largely unknown.

Important Concepts of PageRank

The higher the PR of the page that links, the better, provided that the number of outgoing links on that page is not excessive. Why? Because the Authority “spreads” between all outgoing links.
PageRank is calculated taking into account the quantity and quality of the links received, so do not waste too much time chasing “easy” links of doubtful quality.
Each page has its own PageRank – that is to say that all and each one of your pages (if they have been indexed) have a unique PageRank assigned.
PageRank works on a logarithmic scale, each step costs much more than the previous one: it is much more complicated to move from a PageRank 3 to 4 than from 1 to 3.
Google only takes into account the links it knows, links from pages not indexed or that have been penalized will not be useful.
Quality is better than quantity: a link from a page with PR6 will always be more beneficial than hundreds of links from pages with PR1. A high PageRank does not guarantee good positioning, but it helps.
Google showed us the public PR on a scale of 1 to 10, whose importance could be interpreted in this way:

  • PR0: the page is pending evaluation or has been penalized
  • PR1: indicates that the page has been indexed and that it seems “correct”
  • PR2: the page is interesting, attracts visitors, and has potential
  • PR3: The page is a good resource in your niche. Many quality information and business pages are at this level
  • PR4: the page stands out from the rest in your niche. From here, we are already talking about consolidated pages and with remarkable authority
  • PR5: pages at this level find it much easier to exit in the first place of searches
  • PR6, PR7,  and PR8: these pages are an unquestionable authority in their field
  • PR9  and PR10: only the big ones among the big ones can reach this level (Google, Adobe, YouTube)

So,is page rank died ?

As you have seen, PageRank has not died, it continues to exist and influences positioning – what happens is that Google no longer reveals this valuable information.
Why doesn’t Google do it anymore? There are many theories, but the one that convinces experts the most is that Google decided not to show the public PageRank to weaken the efforts of professional SEOs and spammers.
If you follow Google a little, you will know that it is not in favor of “doing SEO” actively, and if you do not have updated metrics, it is more difficult for you to do many “SEO” tasks.
